PROSTATE PROBLEMS

The prostate is a gland about the size of a walnut. It forms part of a male reproductive system, located just beneath the bladder and wraps around the urethra (tube that carries urine out of the bladder). It grows larger as you age. The prostate gland can sometimes suffer from a number of health issues including; prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate gland) or prostatic infection, Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (prostate enlargement) and prostate cancer.

Common risk factors for prostate problems include: Chronic/Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections, Sexually Transmitted Diseases-gonorrhea, chlamydia, candidiasis etc., aging and diets high in saturated fats, red meat and refined sugars.

Clinical signs and symptoms include: Sharp pains in the penis, dysuria (pain or burning sensation in the penis when urinating),splitting(division)in urine, frequency in urination, strangury or straining before urination, urinary hesitancy(urine not flowing properly),pains at the pubic region, discharges from the penis, urinating blood, erectile dysfunction etc.

It is therefore advisable for men to regularly report to the Clinic/Hospital for prostate screening as it can sometimes be present without any signs and symptoms.
